So I have long passed the date of our anniversary (Sept 28th), mostly because we have been so swamped around our home. Me in the midst of fall photo shoots and Kevin in the middle of continuing all his pastoral responsibilities and starting up the new school year, and then adding the 3 kids in the mix! It’s hard to believe that the day has come and gone already!
Thankfully we were able to take a 3 day retreat away to the North Shore to do some long awaited hiking and exploring without the kids and to just have time alone. Little did we know that the weekend would be one of the craziest that we have experienced yet! We headed out on Sunday. Monday, our actual anniversary day started out pleasant, but as the day progressed, so did the wind and the cold. After a wonderful breakfast at one of our favorite cafe’s we headed out to the Temperence River to do some hiking. As we were hiking we noted how strong the wind was and then heard the first crack of one of the birch trees falling into the river. Kev turned to me and said “We better be careful, who know where the next one will go.” Just as he was turning, a big white Birch chunk came flying at us. It was all we could do to run as fast as we could the rest of the way back to the trail head. Needless to say, we were not injured, and hiking was put out for the rest of the day, as was the electricity and the whole town which SHUT DOWN. It was all we could do to scramble to a road house to get some dinner in before their electricity went out too! We headed back to our rustic cabin in the woods, hoping and praying that it would not fall in on us as we slept in the cold (our electricticy was out too!)
Thankfully it did not, and we both had to laugh about the entire experience. Just another one to add to the many that we have been blessed to have together. I only pray that the Lord would give us many, many more as we continue to live this life together.
What a fun story… probably not at the time of running to save your lives from the flying birch trees but of course good memories being together. CONGRATS on your 7 years! 🙂 Ya’ll have created a beautiful family and are certainly using the talents and gifts God blessed you with! 🙂 Miss seeing you guys!
