When Kari called, as a high school senior, I just assumed that she was needing her senior photo taken. But she surprised me when she asked if she could shadow me as a photographer for a few hours for a senior project she was doing. We met for coffee and chatted about some of the aspects of the job world of photography. It took me back to my high school years ( 10 years ago!? already!) when I job shadowed a graphic designer for a day and realized it was not my forte! It probably didn’t help that Photoshop was pretty new and it was a sign industry, think large outdoor signs… (Thankfully graphic design has broadened over the years!)
The following week we scheduled our own session with a few of her girlfriends and I shot and she watched, then I gave her the camera and she shot some using her friends as models. Here are a few that I took, while we were just playing around.
The last session that she will do is editing.
I am hoping that she will get an overall feel for the industry and as she heads off to college she will be led in the right career path. (Photography?!?) Whatever she decides upon, I am thankful to have been a part of her journey.
Happy Monday!
