It is crazy season. This month alone I am photographing 6 weddings and have family shoots every weekend on top of client meetings. Not only that, my kids go to various camps and I feel like the mom Uber is in full effect (andy no tips included!)
Staying sane for me during this season takes quite a bit of work, and as a people pleaser and lover of these summer months, I have been trying really hard to keep my head above water while still enjoying this small amount of summer that we as Minnesotans get! So how do I do it… here are a few things working for me!
- Waking up early. My kids have now entered the teenage zone and are sleeping until at least 9am, so for me, this means waking up at 6:30 to try and get in a 30 minute workout and a quiet time, coffee and a few moments to access the day.
- Working out! My stress level rises at this point in the year, and I have found that even a quick walk around the block can change my entire attitude. Bonus, when my kids decide they want to come with me and we get some one on one time in.
- Shutting down. It is SO easy to work until the wee hours of the night, and sometimes I have to do that, but every night at 10:30 my phone dings and tells me I better be in bed in 30 minutes to remind me that I need sleep to be a kind person the next day!
- Checking out from social media. We all know it is a time waster, and this month I just hired on my social media manager, Susan, to take over this task for me so I can be laser focused on my work days.
- A laptop. I just bought myself a little Chromebook this year so that I have a laptop to take with me when I am waiting for kids to be done with activities. I’m not a huge fan of laptops just because I like to mentally work in one spot, but with the way things have been going this summer, I needed something small to be able to keep up with posts like this and work away from home.
- Grace upon grace. I am simply one person and realizing I can not do it (or need to do it all!) all is something I am constantly needing to be reminded of!
