Recently this week I had the opportunity to meet with a sweet college aged woman who so graciously took me out to coffee to pick my brain on photography. It seems the older I get, I feel like the less I know! With the technological world whirling around a 100 miles an hour, the upkeep of social media and just the chaos of the business ( oh and life with three school aged children and all their activities) it is enough to keep my head from rolling off.
I am realizing in this 13th year of being in business that I am not as young as I used to be. I can not stay up until the wee hours editing, and after working a 10 hour wedding, get this, I am actually sore enough that I need the next day to recover. I feel like I just ran a marathon. Reguardless of all this, I LOVE it!! And I told myself, the day I stop loving photography is the day I stop shooting.
Thankfully my legs are still movin and my arms are still waving and even after a 10 hour day, I am still smiling as I look through post images.
Let me bring you back to this young woman… and to all of you who are just starting out or still have the vigor and energy I had 10 years ago!! (Seriously I am not that old, but sometimes I just feel it, can I get an Amen!!)
One of her questions to me was how do you start to get more weddings? My answer to her was the answer I received to this question 13 years ago… Just keep shooting. Whatever it is that you love, weddings, children, nature, families, grads, corporate events, tabletop, whatever it may be, keep it up. Know your camera and your lenses. And know them well. Read your manual, look at You Tube videos, ask friends, whatever it may be. Work hard to get better, and better, and just keep shooting.
Happy Friday!
